Why Mikey never wore jewelry

So I have been asked to explain why Mikey never wore jewelry. It’s not a very long or pleasant story. But it here it goes. When Mikey was about 6 he came home from my folks house with a necklace that was his grandma’s. She had received it from a friend of hers. It was a Indian head and some kind of spearhead. I thought it was cute that he wanted something from his grandma and her friend (Ellie was her name). Now Ellie and my mom had been friends since high school. I thought it was cute that he wanted something that was given to my mom over 20 years before he was born. Then he felt very proud to be wearing it. He smiled and had to show what he got. Well when my ex-husband came home Mikey showed him and he ripped it off of him and said only fags wear jewelry. Mikey never again put on any form of jewelry. Not even a watch. It was sad and my ex and I had a huge fight about it. This does tell how impressionably young kids are and what we say and do around them has a lasting impression. Thanks for listening. Love Kathy

Was this ex-husband his real father or a step-father? If it was his real father, is that why he never mentions a dad(other than in Read Wiped in Blue, which obviously wasn’t about his litteral dad), because the dude was an asshole?

Eyedea doesn’t seem like the person that would be effected by that but if you knew then I can’t imagine it different or with other reasoning, thanks for responding to my question with this story even though it wasn’t pleasant like you said but interesting.

well, what his dad said was wrong, because of the homophobia it implied, but still i cant lie and tell i’m not glad about the unintentional consequences of what he said. i’m super glad. cause i’m really happy to see a rapper not wear jewelry, honestly. it was one of the first things that made me listen to Eyedea. personally, i can’t pay attention to somebody who’s wearing flashy jewelry.
