Little story

Here’s a little story about a man named Mikey. His grandfather and uncle drive race cars, not any more but as I and Mikey grew up. Yes as a teenager me and my family spent every weekend from May to Oct at different race tracks around the country. My dad built and drove an open wheeled Formula Vee race car. He was national champion in the late 70’s. Well by the time Mikey came along they still where racing but also on ice. I have the ice racer stored in my garage. Mikey liked the ice races mainly because you could play in the snow go inside get warm and dry then back out to play. It was like being at home but the summer races were very different. We only have one track close which is BIR, Brainerd which is a few hours away. Well Mikey really wanted to go and we talked about how it’s hot, dusty, and loud. He wanted to go so we went. Now back then Brainerd was a ok track not like it is now. The inn field had nothing but a couple out houses for the workers. Now it’s really set with bathrooms, showers, electricity, food stands, bleachers. Any way as I said we went an spend the day watching his grandpa. He loved the tunnel that goes between the inn field and the pit area. When the cars go over you can feel the shake of the ground and it makes such a rumble. Come night fall Mikey wanted to go home and sleep in his own bed. I told him we talked about this you wanted to come but I did do the drive home. When he got something in his head there is no way anyone was going to change it. I knew that with him from birth. So home we went and the car was the best place for him to sleep and he did. When we got home he wanted to make sure he would be back at the track to see grandpa’s race. I was like you have got to be kidding you want to go back in a couple hours. Well we did. I have told this story many times and every time Mikey would say that’s right, I’m a G and always have been. He wasn’t really he did the sleeping, I did the driving on little sleep. I do think he knew what it took for on the last tour he was doing most of the driving, managing, and doing it on very little sleep. I wish he could of found a better balance than the all on nun attitude which is what our society has become. Thanks for reading, the love, and supporting. Love Kathy
